Story of Inspiration thanks to Lisa

When Adam came into my life, I had just turned 50 and though I try to be a very positive and upbeat person, I could feel myself slowing down, emotionally. It seemed that happiness and the pure joy of life had started to slip away.

 Then Adam came to American Idol.

 The night of his audition, I waited up for my husband to get home from band practice to tell him about this incredible kid from the San Francisco audition. For the rest of the season, I could not wait for Tuesday night so I could watch this remarkable talent perform. 

By the time the season ended and Adam had placed 2nd I already knew something very special had happened to me. Actually, I felt somewhat frightened. I had to go online to see if what I was feeling was somehow abnormal. What was it about this young man that had me thinking of him 24 hours a day. Was I insane?

 Once I realized that there were millions of others like me and most very close to my age, it somehow felt okay. I was normal, or at least I had a support group for my insanity. I think even if we are nuts, as long as we have other nuts around us, we can claim to be perfectly fine.

 As time passed and it became obvious to me and everyone that knew me that this was a little strange, I started realizing how I was changing. I dressed differently, I lost weight, I danced all the time, I even caught myself singing, OUT LOUD. I never did that before. 

Then I started paying more and more attention to the plight of the LGBT community, especially the young gay men. 

Now, I not only belong to a group on the college campus where I work called the SafeZone, I also volunteer for the Trevor Project. I had always had gay friends but I had never dealt with fact that they are the one group left in the world who are openly discriminated against and it is accepted by otherwise intelligent and powerful people. 

 So, Adam, you did this. You brought me to a better place in my life so that I can help others find the better place in their lives. I love you so as a musician, artist, and talented showman but I love you most as the most beautiful human being in the world today.

 Thank you for your inspiration.
